Fishing tourney benefits Trauma Center at Lee Memorial
Registration is now open for the 9th Annual David Lee Root Jr. Memorial Fishing Tournament, a catch, photograph and release angling event. Proceeds benefit the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital.
The event is Friday, July 8 at 7 p.m. Mandatory Captain’s Meeting, and on Saturday, July 9, Honor Fishing Start at 7 a.m.
The Root Family lost their son, David, 18, to an automobile accident in 2001. When their son, Dustin, was in an accident the following year, he was saved by the Trauma Unit.
Entry fee is $50 per angler and the fishing can be done by boat, kayak or from the famous Matlacha fishing bridge. There is no minimum number of anglers required per boat.
Enjoy more than big fish – there’s a barbeque, too. The barbeque follows the photo “weigh in,” along with prizes, a 50/50 and chance drawings. For those not participating, tickets for the barbeque may be purchased for $8/adult and $5 for children 12 and under.
All proceeds will benefit the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital to aid with the treatment of the severely injured and to provide them the best chance for recovery.
For more information or to register today, call Dave and Debbie Root at 239-282-9122 or go to www.davidleerootmemorial.com.
