A large warehouse on 2nd Street West in Lehigh was destroyed Sunday along with its contents, some 33,000 square feet of food and coffee. The warehouse houses Stan’s Coffee and P&L Foods Inc.
The fire was reported at around 2 p.m. from a passer-by who reported smoke coming from the building.
The Lehigh Acres Fire Dept. dispatched 10 trucks and around 75 firefights to fight the blaze which took four hours to battle.
Firefighters were prevented from reaching some areas of the warehouse due to a fire wall and the collapse of a ceiling.
Firefighters were also alerted that the blaze was a HAZMAT situation because the warehouse had around 40,000 gallons of cooking oil that created a safety issue.
No cause for the blaze was given although an investigation is underway and firefighters were expected to remain at the scene throughout the night.
The firm has shipped dry grocery goods and coffee to 11 Southwest Florida communities for some 56 years.
Nobody was injured and a fleet of trucks outside were not burned.
In addition to Lehigh, other fire companies that responded with help included Fort Myers and south Trail
