Elks says good-bye with farewell dinner on July 23

The Lehigh Acres Elks Lodge 2602 will have a Farewell Dinner Dance on Saturday, July 23.

The lodge is merging with the Fort Myers Elks Lodge 1288.

The public is invited to come and say farewell to many of their friends who are Elks. Dinner will be held at the Lodge at 1050 Joel Blvd with cocktails at 6 and dinner at 7 p.m. The menu will consist of a choice of prime rib or fish.

Music will be provided by the K-Tones.

Tickets are $16 a person in advance at $18 at the door. Call Barbara Guido at 770-2497 for reservations and choice of menu.

LA Edible Gardening Exchange holds first meeting

The first meeting of the Lehigh Acres Edible Gardening Exchange will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20 at the East County Regional Library’s meeting room.

Russ Luther from ECHO will be the guest speaker at their first meeting.

They provide subtropical and tropical seed plus education on how to use them to starving nations of the world. At their location in Fort Myers, they have a store that sells seed and a nursery to the public.

Legion to host first Fish Friday on July 15

The American Legion Post 323 Riders will host its first Fish Fry on Friday, July 15 at 5 p.m.. Dinner will include fish filet, French fries, cole slaw and a roll for $7.

After dinner, you are invited to stay and enjoy karaoke with Ronnie D. and Tammy.

Karaoke begins at 7:30 p.m. The proceeds from the Fish Fry will go to the riders various programs. For more information, call the American Legion Post at 369-3178. The American Legion Post is located on Ashlar Ave., just behind the Burger King which is on Homestead Rd.

Christmas in July – Snow Day at the Kiwanis Thrift Store

The Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres will hold a special community event on Saturday, July 23 at their Thrift Store at 15 Homestead Rd. S. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be six tons of snow built like a hill, a bounce house and much more for the little ones. Free hot dogs and pizza.

Baked steak dinner at Legion on July 29

American Legion Squadron 323 will have a baked steak dinner with all the trimmings on July 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $7 with proceeds going to their children and youth programs. For more information, call the American Legion Post 323 at 239-369-3178.

LACC Business ‘After Hours’ planned

Business After Hours is “getting creative.” This month’s Business After Hours will be hosted by Casey’s Craft Emporium at 25 Homestead Rd. N, Unit 25, and will give you the chance to unleash your inner creativity, Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce officials say. Mark your calendar for Thursday, July 21, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Plan for summer camp at the Alva Community Center

Don’t be left without a spot in camp, says Sandra Bates of the Alva Community Center.

“Summer is fast approaching and camps fill early, don’t delay and register today,” she said.

The Traditional Summer Camp at Alva is open to children ages 6 to 13.

Activities include indoor and outdoor games, crafts, swimming, fishing, kayaking, special speakers, nutritional, environmental and fitness, limited field trips and more. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack are included for $75 per week. Sign up online at: at www.leeparks.org and receive a 10 percent discount.

There will only be 45 participants a week, Bates said.
