Cubs rally in 10th upends Miracle, 5-2
The Daytona Cubs strung together three consecutive RBI hits in the top half of the 10th inning to nip the Fort Myers Miracle 5-2 Thursday night at Hammond Stadium.
Tied 1-1 heading to the ninth, the Miracle and Cubs traded runs to force extra innings. In the 10th, Cubs catcher Mario Mercedes earned a walk from reliever Matt Hauser. Following a pair of outs, a walk, and a pitching change, Evan Crawford, Justin Bour, and Matt Cerda delivered consecutive RBI hits to break a 2-2 tie and take a three-run lead.
Miracle starter Tom Stuifbergen threw five innings and scattered nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Cubs starter Jeffrey Lorick was just as effective, lasting 5 2/3 and giving up one unearned run.
Hauser (1-4) was saddled with the loss after failing to keep the game tied twice. Cubs closer Frank Bautisita (3-1) earned the win.
The Miracle (10-10, 44-46) face the Cubs again Friday night at Hammond Stadium.
