Two from LSHS too participate in conference

Christina Penuel and Suzanne Somogyi, educators from Lehigh Senior High School of the Arts were selected to be presenters at the 2011 Florida Art Education Association (FAEA) conference. The conference will be held in November in St. Petersburg, Florida.

First Community Congregational Vacation Bible School is July 25

The First Community Congregational Church at 200 E. Leeland Heights Blvd. will host its Bible School on July 25 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. for children ages 4 to those in the sixth grade. A light dinner will be served to all the children from 5 to 5:45 p.m.

The theme for the evening will be “Cook it up, stir it up, shake it up, mix it together for Jesus,” along with food, fun, games and crafts.

The church is located at 200 E. Leeland Heights Blvd. English and Spanish Vacation Bible School will be available, according to Pastor Deb Frysinger, the church’s minister.

Kreegel staff member coming to Lehigh

A member of the staff of Rep Paige V. Kreegel (D-72) will be in Lehigh Acres on Thursday, July 21 to meet with constituents who want to discuss any state issues. The hours are from 9 to 10 a.m. in the East County Regional Library.

Lehigh Elks farewell dinner is canceled

The Lehigh Acres Elks Lodge 2602 had planned a Farewell Dinner Dance on Saturday, July 23 for the public, but due to a merger with the Fort Myers Elks Lodge 1288, the local lodge at 1050 Joel Blvd., is closed and the event has been canceled, according to Kathryn Pierson, who handled publicity for the local Elks.

Christmas in July – Snow Day at the Kiwanis Thrift Store

The Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres will hold a special community event on Saturday, July 23 at their Thrift Store at 15 Homestead Rd. S. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be six tons of snow built like a hill, a bounce house and much more for the little ones. Free hot dogs and pizza.

Baked steak dinner at Legion on July 29

American Legion Squadron 323 will have a baked steak dinner with all the trimmings on July 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $7 with proceeds going to their children and youth programs. LACC Business ‘After Hours’ set

Business After Hours is “getting creative.” This month’s Business After Hours will be hosted by Casey’s Craft Emporium at 25 Homestead Rd. N, Unit 25, and will give you the chance to unleash your inner creativity, Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce officials say. Mark your calendar for Thursday, July 21, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Bunche Beach: Low Tide Loafing at Sunset

Join a naturalist guide as you leisurely explore the mud flats to see what mysteries the low tide uncovers while enjoying a beautiful Florida sunset. Bunche Beach is a wonderful place to explore and learn about the amazing variety of shore birds, shells and possibly spot a manatee or dolphin playing along the shore. Bring a camera, shoes that can get wet, bug spray and drinking water. The next walk is scheduled for Thursday, August 11 from 7 to 8 p.m. Meet at the picnic tables on the beach. The walk is free. Plan for summer camp at the Alva Community Center

Don’t be left without a spot in camp, says Sandra Bates of the Alva Community Center.

“Summer is fast approaching and camps fill early, don’t delay and register today,” she said.

The Traditional Summer Camp at Alva is open to children ages 6 to 13.

Activities include indoor and outdoor games, crafts, swimming, fishing, kayaking, special speakers, nutritional, environmental and fitness, limited field trips and more. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack are included for $75 per week. Sign up online at: at www.leeparks.org and receive a 10 percent discount.

There will only be 45 participants a week, Bates said.
