Lehigh motorcyclist dies in crash

A Lehigh Acres motorcyclist is dead following a crash between the motorcycle and a UPS delivery truck at the intersection of Gunnery Rd. and 4th St. SW in Lehigh Acres on Tuesday, July 26 after 2:30 p.m., according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The road was closed for some time in the afternoon.

Investigators said the driver of the UPS delivery truck was traveling north on Gunnery Rd. approaching 4th St. SW , then turned across the southbound lanes of Gunnery Rd. and was almost completely across when the motorcycle struck the rear of the truck, just in front of the rear axle.

Investigators said the driver of the motorcycle died at the scene. He was identified as Gerardo Perez Jr., 23, of 4932 7th Street SW, Lehigh Acres.

The driver of the UPS delivery truck was not injured.

Investigators said the preliminary investigation revealed speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.

The driver of the UPS delivery truck has been identified as Tony L. Patrick, 30, of Moore Haven, Fla.

Visitation will be held on Thursday July 28 at 3 p.m. at Farley Funeral Home. Burial will take place on Friday July 29 at Lee Memorial Park at 9 a.m. Farley Funeral Home, 1100 Lee Blvd., Lehigh Acres is handling arrangements.
