Yankees outlast Miracle 2-1 in 11 innings
The Tampa Yankees pulled out a 2-1 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle Tuesday night in 11 innings at Hammond Stadium.
Ronnier Mustelier led off the 11th with a triple off of Miracle reliever Brad Stillings. Kyle Roller drove in Mustelier for the 2-1 lead. Ronny Marte pitched a 1-2-3 bottom half to pick up his second save and extend the Miracle losing streak to a season-high six games.
Cody Johnson provided the only offense off Miracle starter Jhon Garcia with a solo homer in the second inning. Garcia threw seven strong innings, scattering six hits and striking out five in a no decision.
The Miracle tied the game in the fourth. Aaron Hicks and Oswaldo Arcia opened the inning with back-to-back singles to put runners at first and third. Dan Rohlfing’s sharp grounder to second base turned into a double play, but yielded a run scored.
Preston Claiborne (2-4) pitched three innings of scoreless relief to earn the win and Stillings (2-3) was hung with the loss. Matt Hauser allowed just one hit in three relief innings and notched a pair of strikeouts.
The Miracle (48-54, 14-18) host the Yankees (55-46, 18-14) for the third game of the current series Wednesday afternoon.
