Tigers drop Miracle, 9-4 on Sunday

The Lakeland Tigers scored five runs before five outs were recorded in the first two innings, sending 16 hitters to the plate Sunday en route to a 9-4 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle at Hammond Stadium.

Tigers starter Shawn Teufel was staked to an early lead and allowed just two runs in seven innings of work. Anderson Hidalgo picked up his fifth and sixth RBI of the series with a two-run double in the fifth inning, but the Miracle were trailing by seven runs heading into the inning.

In the ninth, the Miracle tacked on a pair of runs with a run-scoring triple by Josmil Pinto and a RBI groundout by Nick Romero. Pinto finished 2-for-3 and also scored a run.

Miracle starter Jhon Garcia (3-5) lasted 1 2/3 innings before leaving the game with an injury. Teufel (3-3) picked up the win for the Tigers. Clint Dempster and Matt Hauser appeared in relief for the Miracle. Dempster pitched three innings and gave up two runs and Hauser pitched a perfect final two.

The Miracle (49-58, 15-22) wrap up an eight-game homestand in the final meeting with the Tigers (51-54, 15-20) this season at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Hammond Stadium.
