An 86-year-old man apparently drowned Sunday in a Cape Coral pool.

Leo Zuder of 1320 SE 21st Terrace was transported to the Cape Coral Hospital emergency room, where he was pronounced dead by staffers.

According to a report, the Cape police responded to a possible drowning at about 7:30 p.m. at a home on Southeast 21st Terrace.

Officers arrived and found Zuder at the bottom of the pool in the deep end, officials said. He was pulled from the water and CPR was performed until medics arrived.

A woman told police that she had been in the pool, but went inside for about three minutes. When she returned, Zuder was at the bottom of the pool and she was unable to pull him from the water. The woman began yelling for help.

She said they had been drinking earlier in the day, but nothing unusual, according to officials.
