Miracle players lose to Bradenton by one run
BRADENTON – After a back-and-forth affair, Bradenton Marauders third baseman Elevys Gonzalez dealt the final blow, a one-out RBI single in the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie and lift the Marauders to a 5-4 win over the Fort Myers Miracle Wednesday night.
Miracle Matt Tone entered the eighth inning and yielded a one-out walk to Ramon Cabrera. After stealing second, Cabrera advanced to third on an infield hit, setting the stage for Gonzalez. Right-handed reliever Matt Hauser was summoned from the bullpen to keep the game knotted, but Gonzalez fought off an inside fastball and dropped a hit into right field, scoring the go-ahead run. Tone (2-3) was charged with the loss.
Marauders reliever Kyle Waldron (1-1) got the win, tossing two scoreless innings in his Florida State League debut.
The Marauders took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning against Miracle starter Pat Dean, but Josmil Pinto quickly erased the deficit with a two-run blast in the second against Nate Baker.
The teams then exchanged blows as Carlos Paulino hit a line-drive home run off Dean in the fourth, and Miracle outfielder Angel Morales answered with a two-run homer to dead center in the fifth off Baker.
With the Miracle holding a brief 4-3 lead, Dean yielded his second home run of the night to Adelberto Santos leading off the sixth inning. Dean battled through the rest of the sixth and seventh innings and finished the night giving up a total of four runs on seven hits. Baker lasted six innings, giving up his four runs on only four hits.
The Miracle (15-23, 49-60) have now lost 12 of their last 13 games and sit in last place in the South Division standings, eight games behind the first-place Marauders (23-16, 53-36) with 31 games to play.
The teams square off two more games at McKechnie Field this season on Thursday and Friday.
