Redistricting hearing set Aug. 31 in Lehigh

A legislative redistricting hearing will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at Veterans Park Recreation Center in Lehigh Acres. The session will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Members of the House and Senate will be on hand. Residents are encouraged to attend and tell their legislators how they would like to see Lehigh in the redistricting issue.

Concert Association to present musical at Fountain Crest

The Lehigh Acres Concert Association will produce a musical concert at Fountain Crest Retirement Community on Sunday, August 14 at 2 p.m. Performing will be several talented Lehigh Senior High School students – Ravyn Clark, sisters Candis and Crystal Marques, Selena Masters and Ovid Patterson; Fountain Crest residents, Ralph Boettger and George McCollam.

Some of the vocal numbers to be performed in the concert are: “Crazy”, “I Enjoy Being a Girl,” “Bless this House,” and a piano rendition of “Sonatina” by Clementi.

This is the seventh concert in the past year to have been presented by the Lehigh Acres Concert

Association under the direction of Ralph Boettger, a resident of Fountain Crest Retirement Community. This is a free concert and is open to the public.

Democratic Women’s Club to meet Aug. 13

The Democratic Women’s Club (DWC) will hold its monthly meeting Saturday, August 13, at the Royal Palm Yacht Club, 2360 West First Street, Fort Myers (from McGregor Blvd., turn toward the river on West First Street, one block north of the Edison and Ford Estates). The speaker will be Dr. Lloyd Fish, who will speak on the Affordable Healthcare Act. The luncheon meeting is 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The luncheon price is $18. Guests are welcome.

Ongoing events at the American Legion

On August 18 the American Legion Post 323 Executive Boards will have a joint meeting. All Executive Board members of the Legion, Auxiliary, Squadron, Riders should plan to attend to give your ideas on future events. The Executive Board members represent the members.

If you have an idea, bring it to your officers and ask them to bring it to the meeting. Changes have been made in the appearance of the Post and if you have not been in the Post in sometime, come in and see the positive changes. There are still move changes being made. Mardi Gras planned by VFW in Lehigh

VFW Post 4174 at 23 S. Homestead Rd. in Lehigh plans a Mardi Gras in August Gala on Aug. 12 through 14 with a “Special Open to the Public License” program.

Friday the 12th there will be a fish fry followed by “DJ Jerry. “Food will be served at 5 p.m. until gone or 7 p.m. Fish and shrimp combo basket are $6.50. Clam strips available.

On Saturday Aug. 13, there will the Mardi Gras Gala Event. There will be costumes, door prizes, a New Orleans style buffet and entertainment provided by “Motown” Mike. Call for ticket information. Advance tickets $20 a couple.

On Sunday, Aug. 14, there will be an “All You Can Eat” pancake breakfast for $4.50. Remember all facilities including the bar are open to the public. All three days and evenings, according to Les Waide, commander.
