Arcia powers 6-3 Miracle win Tuesday night

By Staff | Aug 10, 2011

Fort Myers right fielder Oswaldo Arcia powered the Miracle past the Bradenton Marauders 6-3 Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium with a three-hit night that included two doubles, a homer and three RBI.

Leading 4-3 in the seventh, Arcia crushed the first pitch of his at-bat against Marauder reliever Jason Erickson over the 405-foot marker in dead center field. Fellow Venezuelan Josmil Pinto followed with a home run of his own, smashing a 2-1 fastball over the left field wall to go back-to-back and extend the lead to 6-3.

The Miracle opened the first inning when Arcia doubled in Aaron Hicks with a flare down the line in left. The Marauders answered in the second when Chase d’Arnaud, on a MLB rehab assignment, homered off Miracle starter Tom Stuifbergen to tie the game 1-1.

The Marauders took the lead on a RBI single by Adalberto Santos in the fourth, but the Miracle got a sacrifice fly by Steve Liddle in the bottom of the inning.

The Marauders threatened a big inning to start the fifth with back-to-back singles that led to runners at second and third with no outs. After yielding a sac-fly to Ramon Cabrera, Stuifbergen struck out Evan Chambers and got d’Arnaud to fly out to right.

The Miracle took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nick Romero began the rally with a soft single to center off Marauder starter Brandon Cumpton. Hicks walked and Arcia followed with his second RBI double of the evening to draw even 3-3.

After Pinto popped-up, Angel Morales hit a routine ground ball to short, but first baseman Colin White could not hold onto the throw from Benji Gonzalez and Hicks scored to give the Miracle a 4-3 lead.

Arcia, Morales, James Beresford and Dan Rohlfing each registered multi-hit nights.

Stuifbergen (5-8) picked up the win, pitching a perfect sixth and seventh innings. He scattered eight hits and gave up three runs with five strikeouts and no walks. Bruce Pugh earned his 13th save, allowing one hit in the final two innings. Stuifbergen and Pugh combined to retire 15 of the last 16 hitters.

Cumpton (2-2) was ousted in the fifth inning after giving up four runs on seven hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout.

The Miracle (52-63, 18-27) host the Marauders (58-57, 28-17) again Wednesday at Hammond Stadium.
