August programs at East County Regional Library

August’s roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULTS

Chess Anyone?

4 p.m. Mondays, August 15, 22, 29

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome! Bring your own chess set or use one of ours. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County Regional Library.

English Caf

6 p.m. Mondays, August, 15, 22, 29

10 a.m. Fridays, August 12, 19, 26

Practice your English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.

Poetry Room

6 p.m. Tuesday, August 16

Poetry Lovers Unite! Join other like-minded people to talk about poetry and share what it means to you. Bring your favorite poem and listen to the poetry of others in a friendly, receptive environment. Registration is required.

FAMILY

Family Storytime

6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, August 23, 30

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.

Toddler Storytime

10 a.m. Wednesdays, August 24, 31

10 a.m. Thursday, August 25

Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, fingerplays and short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation and encouragement. Toddler storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.

KIDS

Kids Read Down Fines

3 4 p.m. Saturday, August 13

4:30 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 17

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading during the allotted time in the designated area of the library. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.

Paper Airplane Races

2 p.m. Saturday, August 20

We’re celebrating (a day late) National Aviation Day! Join us to fold various airplane designs and then test them for distance. Paper will be provided.

Preschool Storytime

10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, August 24, 31

10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 25

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes.

TEENS
