Cards deck Miracle 10-2 Friday night
The Palm Beach Cardinals scored nine runs over the final four innings to knock off the Fort Myers Miracle 10-2 Friday night at Hammond Stadium.
The Cardinals reversed a one-run deficit in the top of the sixth inning when first baseman Xavier Scruggs sent a full-count pitch from Miracle reliever Alex Wimmers over the left field wall for a two-run, go-ahead homer.
The Miracle fell behind 1-0 early when Luis de la Cruz touched starter Edgar Ibarra in the first inning for a two-out RBI infield single to short. Kyle Conley attempted to score, but was gunned down by James Beresford with Dan Rohlfing applying the tag.
Capitalizing on a Cardinal miscue in the third inning, the Miracle tied the game with a hit by Angel Morales.
Nick Romero briefly gave the Miracle a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a two-out RBI single, but the Cardinals ran off nine unanswered runs, including six in the ninth inning featuring a pair of home runs by Scruggs and Conley.
Wimmers (0-2) was on the hook for the loss after giving up three runs, one earned, in two innings.
The Miracle (53-64, 19-28) and Cardinals (56-62, 27-22) play again at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
