Fort Myers Police are searching for three suspects after an armed bank robbery west of Lehigh Acres on Friday morning.
Masked men wearing dark clothing and gloves entered the Wells Fargo bank branch, just within the Fort Myers Police Department’s jurisdiction, near SR82 shortly before 10 a.m., said Shelly Flynn, a spokeswoman for the department.
Two of the men, armed with handguns, jumped over the bank counter and held up several tellers at gunpoint, demanding all of the cash in their drawers. The third man brandished the AK-47.
There were “about a dozen” customers in the bank, one of whom was pushed to the ground and injured during the robbery, Flynn said. That person was treated at the scene.
The three men made off with an undisclosed amount of money before heading eastbound into Lehigh in a white van. Police say they found the white van believed to have been the one used in the robbery. The minivan was recovered in Lehigh near Leonard Blvd. by Lee County Sheriff’s deputies late Friday and an investigation is continuing. Flynn said the minivan was stolen.
