Community pool still features activities as schools reopen

By Staff | Aug 18, 2011

Lee County students may have returned to school, but pool supervisor and lifeguard Rebecca Horne said there are still many activities going on at the Lehigh Acres Community Pool.

Granted, it may not be at capacity, but activities include a vigorous workout with water aerobics, a slower movement exercise focused on those with arthritis, swimming lessons and swim teams practice.

Horne is a long-term Florida resident and has been with the Lee County Parks and Recreation Department for 15 years and with the Lehigh Acres Community Pool for eight years.

She is assisted by Glenn Pollack, the seniors recreational specialist. He works with seniors to help them get fit and remain active and healthy. He is also an active lifeguard.

The pool always has two lifeguards on duty.

Pool hours are as follows:

* Sunday and Monday: Closed

* Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

* Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

* Saturday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Daily admission:

* Adults, $2.50

* Seniors, $2

* Children, $1.50

Annual passes are more economical, but the best “bang for your buck” is afforded to seniors over 50 with memberships at the senior center, according to Horne. Membership is $15 and members receive an annual pool pass for just $10.
