Hermsen gets first Miracle win

By Staff | Aug 18, 2011

JUPITER – B.J. Hermsen delivered a stellar six inning effort against a Jupiter Hammerhead lineup infiltrated with MLB rehabs to steer the Fort Myers Miracle to a 5-1 victory Wednesday night.

Hermsen (1-0) scattered eight hits, one run and struck out five with only one walk in six complete innings. Half of the eight Hammerhead hits came off of bats from MLB players Omar Infante and Chris Coghlan.

The Miracle offense gave Hermsen an early cushion with four runs in the top of the second inning. Oswaldo Arcia led off with a solo home run over the wall in right-center off Jupiter starter Edgar Olmos. Arcia was 3-for-3 with a sixth-inning double.

Jamaal Hawkins and Angel Morales drove in runs in the second. Hawkins delivered a run-scoring double down the first base line and Morales added a sacrifice fly.

The Miracle (20-31) finish a three-game series with the Hammerheads (19-33) Thursday at Hammond Stadium.
