In a game started on July 1, the Fort Myers Miracle picked up play with the St. Lucie Mets in the top of the second inning Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium and earned a brisk 2-1 victory.

Tuesday’s game was then shortened by rain with home plate umpire John Bailey clearing the field with heavy rain and lightning in the area. Tuesday’s regularly scheduled game was postponed.

The Miracle took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with Aaron Hicks igniting the offense with a one-out single off Mets pitcher Greg Peavey. Hicks then stole second with Oswaldo Arcia at the plate.

Arcia smacked the next pitch into center field for a hit. Charging the ball in the outfield, Gilbert Gomez misplayed the bounce allowing Hicks to score. Danny Rams added a two-out RBI single to push the lead to a pair of runs.

Working quickly in the top of the fifth, Miracle pitcher Alex Wimmers retired the first two batters before giving up a solo homer to Gomez. Wimmers then induced a groundout by Francisco Pena to make the game official and head to the bottom of the inning.

After a nearby lightning strike, Bailey cleared the field with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

Wimmers (1-2) earned his first win of the season after four innings allowing just two hits and striking out six. Jhon Garcia started the game on July 1 and pitched an inning with one hit given up.

Peavey (2-1) was tagged with the loss after 3 2/3 innings in relief of July 1 starter Scott Moviel. Peavey allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with a couple of strikeouts.

The Miracle (55-69, 21-33) will play a pair Wednesday against the Mets (66-59, 28-27) at Hammond Stadium. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.
