Everblades lure rookie defender
Defenseman Josh Van Dyk agreed to terms on his first professional contract Wednesday with the Florida Everblades.
Van Dyk, 24, completed his collegiate career in March at the University of Maine, where the 6-foot-1, 190-pound blue liner recorded 18 points (3 goals, 15 assists) in 36 games last season for a career 44 points.
“Josh is a smart two-way defenseman, who captured the eye of the American Hockey League following his senior season,” said Everblades coach Greg Poss. “He was a solid player at Maine, and we look forward to him bringing his style of play down here to Florida.”
Individual games tickets for preseason and opening weekend are on sale at the Germain Arena box office 10 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays, or at any Ticketmaster outlet or by phone at 1-800-745-3000.
The Blades face Chicago in two preseason games Oct. 7-8 at Germain Arena, followed by the regular season openers against the Gwinnett Gladiators on Oct. 14-15.
