9-11 ceremony planned at Legion Post
The American Legion Post 323 will host its 9-11 ceremony Sunday September 11, at 3 p.m. at the Post home on Ashlar Ave., behind the Burger King restaurant. The event is open to the public. This is the 10th anniversary of the September 11 actions by terrorists that bombed the World Trade Center, and the Pentagon.
Legion members say this would be a good time to bring your family out and listen to this program. There will be a pot luck dinner after ceremony; bring a dish to share.

Blessed Pope John Church Guild to hold artists, crafts bazaar
The Women’s Guild of Blessed Pope John XXIII Catholic Church, will host the 4th Annual Artists & Crafters Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Bazaar will be held at the church, 13060 Palomino Lane, Fort Myers, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Artists and crafters from Lehigh Acres, Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Port Charlotte and Fort Denaud will be selling their handmade items.
In addition to the craft items for sale, there will also be a bake sale, an artists’ and crafters’ Chinese auction and a grand prize raffle. Musical entertainment will be provided by Rich Byrnes. Food and beverages will be available for purchase and free parking will be provided, said Damian P. Hanley, communications director of the Guild.
Democratic Women’s Club meets Sept. 10
The Democratic Women’s Club (DWC) will hold its monthly meeting Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Royal Palm Yacht Club, 2360 West First Street, Fort Myers (from McGregor Blvd., turn toward the river on West First Street, one block north of the Edison and Ford Estates). The speaker will be Mary Robinson, a licensed marriage and family therapist, who has more than 30 years of experience as a creative workshop leader in personal growth, awareness, and meditation.
The luncheon meeting is 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The luncheon price is $18. Guests are welcome.

Riverdale to host 20th year class reunion
The Riverdale High School Class of 1991 will hold a class reunion from Sept. 16-18. Donations are being asked to help the class celebrate the weekend. More information can be found at their website: www.cattslair.com/RHS91.
Bea Youngs, one of the planners for the reunion said that they expecting at least 80 or more to attend.
“We have recently retired Assistant Principal Steve Adams as our guest speaker,” she said.
Also planned to attend is a former wrestling coach at Riverdale.

Blood drive set at Moose Lodge Saturday
The Moose Lehigh Acres Moose Lodge 2266 will hold a blood Drive on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lodge’s home at 210 Homestead Rd. S. A free lunch and gifts will be provided for those who attend. There also will be a bake sale at the same time.
Exchange student to speak at Women’s Club
The General Women’s Club of Lehigh Acres will hold its September meeting at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 at Faith Lutheran Church at 705 Leeland Heights Blvd. The program will be presented by Naruha “Mary” Nishizaki, an exchange student from Tochigi, Japan. She is an 11th grade student at East Lee County High School and is staying with Michael and Mary Swords and family, said Linda Saul, a spokeswoman with the club.
Extension Agent speaking at Edible Gardening Exchange on Sept. 21
The upcoming meeting of the Lehigh Acres Edible Gardening Exchange will focus on “Fall edible planting,” Roy Beckford, from the University of Florida Extension Service, will be the guest speaker. Beckford is Lee County’s agriculture Extension agent.
This free meeting will be held at the East County Regional Library on Gunnery Road on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Mingle and chat with other gardeners from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The meeting starts promptly at 5:30 p.m.
There is no fee; however, the group asks that you bring something to share at the meeting.
Gardeners are encouraged to share knowledge, ideas, excess seeds, cuttings, gardening magazines headed for the recycle bin, tools collecting dust in the garage, or anything else that they are willing to unconditionally give to another gardener.
If you wish your item to be used the “Our Daily Bread Garden” or raffled off at the end of the meeting, please let them know when you sign in.

General Women’s Club to hold annual luncheon
The General Women’s Club of Lehigh Acres will hold its annual luncheon card party and game day on Saturday, Oc. 29 at 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church at 705 Leeland Heights Blvd in Lehigh.
