Investigators with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said they discovered the body of a man early Wednesday after they were called at around 12:25 a.m. for a medical assistance near the intersection of Anaconda Ave. S. and Meadow Rd., a remote area of Lehigh Acres.

Authorities have confirmed the man found dead in the remote area was shot.

The victim has not been identified.

In addition, Lehigh Acres fire and Rescue personnel also responded to the area.

Sheriff’s Spokesman Larry King said that the individual was found in a wooded area in about 15 minutes after the arrival of deputies.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

King said that due to the limited visibility, a large area was cordoned off to prevent disturbing any potential indicators of what happened or potential evidence if a crime occurred. he said daylight would allow crime scene personnel the ability to search the area further and continue documenting the scene.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident. They will not confirm the extent or type of injury received by the man, King said. The District 21 Medical Examiner concluded that he had been shot.
