Prep Report: Baker extends win streak to nine in a row

Make that nine match victories in a row for the Ida Baker volleyball team after knocking out Golden Gate 25-12, 25-11, 25-17 Thursday night at Baker.

Louie Ross and Kali Nordquist led the Bulldogs offense with nine and seven kills, respectively. Ali Nicloy contributed four kills.

Madison Kobs handed out 22 assists to go with 13 service points, including four aces. Whitney Bennett added nine service points on the night.

The Bulldogs (11-2) host Riverdale in a District 6A-13 match Tuesday night.

Riverdale handed North Fort Myers just its second defeat of the season 25-22, 25-18, 25-15 Thursday night.

Island Coast 3, East Lee County 1: Brittany Baker and Dana Ruff led Island Coast to its first victory of the season with a 25-18, 26-24, 16-25, 25-16 win over East Lee County.

Baker handed out 21 assists while Ruff served up eight aces to go with nine kills. Kalli Roggow added seven kills and Lindsey Helveston served four aces.

The Gators (1-5) participate in a one-day tournament Saturday at Charlotte.

Cypress Lake 3, Mariner 0: Cypress Lake downed Mariner in a straight-set 25-19, 25-22, 25-17 District 5A-13 match.

The only highlight for the Tritons was four service aces by Brittini Smith.

The Tritons host Riverdale Monday night.

Lemon Bay 3, Cape Coral 1: Cape Coral hung tight with Lemon Bay before falling 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 25-8 in a District 5A-13 match.

Ashley Hunter delivered six service aces and had five blocks while Katie Habuda had two aces and six blocks. Kristi Maselter smashed 13 kills to go with nine blocks and 16 digs. Alison Harper added seven kills and 15 digs. Katie Upton handed out 20 assists.

The Seahawks (3-4) play at Cypress Lake Tuesday.

Boys Golf

At Cypress Lake Country Club: Ida Baker bumped its record to 9-0-1 Thursday with a five-hole victory over Estero and Cypress Lake.

A sudden heavy downpour doused the players and rendered the course unplayable in short order with just five holes completed. Since players completed a different series of holes, the match was scored as a relation to par.

Kyle Schulte led the Bulldogs with a 4-under-par score, backed by Anthony Montoya at 1-under. Anthony Myers was even and Daichi Dougherty was 2-over to put the Bulldogs at 3-under overall. Dougherty’s score was equal to or better than anyone for Estero (18-over) or Cypress Lake (21-over).

James Van Valkenburg and Michael Adams were 2-over for Estero while Ryder Albright and Jake Kilgore were 2-over for Cypress Lake.

The Bulldogs play again on Tuesday at Eastwood against Dunbar and North Fort Myers.

At Eastwood Country Club: Fort Myers was just too strong for Cape Coral Thursday as the Green Wave outscored the Seahawks 158-216.

Sam Johnson and Anthony Lawrence led the Seahawks with rounds of 51 and 53, respectively.

All four Green Wave players shot 5-over-par or better, led by Sam Murphy’s 2-over 38 and John Lowrey’s 3-over 39.

The Seahawks (3-4) tee off against Estero and East Lee County on Tuesday at Whiskey Creek.

Cape Coral 216 – Sam Johnson 51, Anthony Lawrence 53, Kevin Markowski 54, Austin Lachmann 58.

At Coral Oaks Golf Course: John Inkster and Cailin Nash shared medalist honors with solid rounds of 42 and Tyler Till added 43 to carry Mariner to a 173-226 victory over Dunbar.

The Tritons (5-3) take on Fort Myers, Evangelical Christian and Bishop Verot Tuesday at Gateway.

Girls Golf

At Westminster Country Club: Katie Cross and Mary Stanulis shot 36 and 43, respectively, to lead Riverdale to an 182-261 victory over North Fort Myers.

Brooke Bailey and Mariah Koch led the Red Knights with 56 and 57, respectively.

The Red Knights (1-3) take on Fort Myers and Dunbar Tuesday at Fort Myers Country Club.

At DeLeon Pool: Oasis swam to victory in six of the 10 events to score a 120-108 win over Mariner with Dunbar third with 37 and East Lee County trailing with 7 points.

Nick deGuzman and Vincent Perstad won two individual events to lead the Sharks.
