Open house set at Dr. Avey’s Office

Community spaghetti dinner planned Sunday

A community spaghetti dinner with a free-will offering will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. at the First Community Congregational Church at 200 Leeland Heights Blvd. Menu includes spaghetti, salad, dessert and a drink. Everyone is invited with dinner beginning at 5 p.m.

Following dinner will be a “Healing Worship Service” at 6:30 p.m.

“Do you desire to get closer to God, to feel his presence? Are you hurting? Are you frustrated? Do you need to find peace? Come and be anointed in God’s Spirit, says Pastor Deb Frysinger.

The church also operated a soup kitchen caf on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Extension Agent speaking at Edible Gardening Exchange on Sept. 21

The upcoming meeting of the Lehigh Acres Edible Gardening Exchange will focus on “Fall edible planting,” Roy Beckford, from the University of Florida Extension Service, will be the guest speaker. Beckford is Lee County’s agriculture Extension agent.

This free meeting will be held at the East County Regional Library on Gunnery Road on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Mingle and chat with other gardeners from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The meeting starts promptly at 5:30 p.m.

There is no fee; however, the group asks that you bring something to share at the meeting.

Gardeners are encouraged to share knowledge, ideas, excess seeds, cuttings, gardening magazines headed for the recycle bin, tools collecting dust in the garage, or anything else that they are willing to unconditionally give to another gardener.

If you wish your item to be used the “Our Daily Bread Garden” or raffled off at the end of the meeting, please let them know when you sign in.

Dispose old drugs in Lehigh on Oct. 4

An Operation Medicine Cabinet will be held by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Winn-Dixie supermarket at 1145 Homestead Rd.

Lehigh residents may safety dispose of all unused or expired medications to help protect the community and the environment, Sheriff’s authorities said.

The event is anonymous.

A drug hand-in and health and Safety Fair is set for October 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held at the Lee County School District Offices at 2855 Colonial Blvd. in Fort

Pendleton appointed to Visit Florida Committee

Chris Pendleton, president and CEO of the Edison & Ford Winter Estates has been appointed to the Cultural Heritage Committee of Visit Florida, the official tourism marketing corporation for Florida. The Committee works to increase Florida visitors and promote the growing interest in cultural heritage and nature based tourism.

The Estates is open daily from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The Estates is the winner of the 2009 National Stewardship Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and is an official project of “Save America’s Treasures” at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a Florida Historic Landmark and a National Register Historic Site. Blessed Pope John Church Guild to hold artists, crafts bazaar

The Women’s Guild of Blessed Pope John XXIII Catholic Church, will host the 4th Annual Artists & Crafters Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Bazaar will be held at the church, 13060 Palomino Lane, Fort Myers, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Artists and crafters from Lehigh Acres, Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Port Charlotte and Fort Denaud will be selling their handmade items.

In addition to the craft items for sale, there will also be a bake sale, an artists’ and crafters’ Chinese auction and a grand prize raffle. Musical entertainment will be provided by Rich Byrnes. Food and beverages will be available for purchase and free parking will be provided, said Damian P. Hanley, communications director of the Guild.

General Women’s Club to hold annual luncheon

The General Women’s Club of Lehigh Acres will hold its annual luncheon card party and game day on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church at 705 Leeland Heights Blvd in Lehigh.
