Two events to help man with cancer

A live band and a silent auction along with a 50/50 raffle and barbecue will be held at the Homestead Bar at 45 Homestead Rd. in Lehigh Acres on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. to help a local man who has cancer and mounting medical bills.

A yard sale and barbecue will held on Oct. 8 at Olga park and community Center at 2325 Olga Drive from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. also for the same cause.

The event is being held to raise money for Brinton Shaddock who has stage 4 cancer. Sarcoma in his leg has metastasized into his lungs. He is known as a loving husband and father of three children, his friends say. Sponsors of the yard sale and barbecue says the family is in need of monetary donations to help with high medical expenses. For more information, call Diane Molloy, chairman of the two events. Dispose old drugs in Lehigh on Oct. 4

An Operation Medicine Cabinet will be held by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Winn-Dixie supermarket at 1145 Homestead Rd.

Lehigh residents may safety dispose of all unused or expired medications to help protect the community and the environment, Sheriff’s authorities said.

The event is anonymous.

A drug hand-in and health and Safety Fair is set for October 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held at the Lee County School District Offices at 2855 Colonial Blvd. in Fort

Medicine Shoppe Flu Clinic scheduled

A flu shot clinic is scheduled at the Medicine Shoppe from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12. The Medicine Shoppe is at 57 Homestead Rd. N. in the Lehigh Towne Center. Those with Medicare must bring their cards with them. For others, the flu shot vaccine is $30. Also available will be pneumonia vaccine shots for $65.

No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome.

Vaccinations are especially important for people with high risk influenza complications like pregnant women, older adults and those with certain medical conditions.

Next Community Planning workshop is Oct. 22

The next Lehigh Acres Community Plan Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, October 22 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the East County Regional Library, 881 Gunnery Road North, Lehigh Acres.

The topic of discussion for this workshop will be “infrastructure.”

‘Steak Out’ planned Oct. 8 at Legion

American Legion 323 Riders will hold a “Steak Out” on October 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. The dinner will include New York Strip (cooked to order), baked potato, salad, roll and butter. The cost will be $12. Tickets are on sale now at the Post Lounge.

Riders complete many projects during the year, cleaning roads, Toys for Tots, school supplies, Girl and Boy State, plus their own programs required by the American Legion.

Music that evening will be provided by Songs by “U” beginning at 7:30 p.m.
