Blades add muscle, speed

By Staff | Sep 30, 2011

Forwards Leigh Salters and Greger Hanson agreed to terms with the Florida Everblades Tuesday, adding muscle and speed to the roster in time for the start of training camp on Friday at Germain Arena.

At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Salters, 22, brings the muscle to the Blades after making 52 appearances last season for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.

“(Salters) is a good-sized forward, who can certainly play the role of sticking up for his teammates,” said Everblades coach Greg Poss. “He spent his entire first year as a pro in the AHL, and we look forward to him bringing that experience to Florida.”

A near-point-per-game performer, Hanson, 23, heads to the Sunshine State after a productive four-year career at Northern Michigan University.

“(Hanson) consistently put up good numbers at the collegiate level,” said Poss. “He is a fast skater with good skills, and can be a big contributor on the power play.”

Training camp opens Friday in the arena’s green rink. Two preseason games are slated for Oct. 7-8 at Germain Arena.
