Events planned for October at E. County Library
October’s roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
ADULTS
Book Discussion: Thomas Wolfe’s “Look Homeward, Angel”
3:30 p.m. Monday, October 3
Enjoy an enlightening discussion of this twentieth-century American classic while snacking with other neighborhood readers at the East County Book Discussion Group, which is open to all.
Chess Anyone?
4 p.m. Mondays, October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31
Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome! Bring your own chess set or use one of ours. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County Regional Library.
Chess Tournament
9 a.m. Saturday, October 15
Calling all chess enthusiasts! The Friends of the East County Regional Library is sponsoring a chess tournament for players of all ages. Five age groups will be represented. Sign up online at the library website or at East County Regional Library. Trophies will be awarded to players in grades K-12 and gift cards will be given to adults. Sponsored by Friends of the East County Regional Library.
Poetry Room
6 p.m. Tuesday, October 18
Poetry Lovers Unite! Join other like-minded people to talk about poetry and share what it means to you. Bring your favorite poem and listen to the poetry of others in a friendly, receptive environment. Registration is required.
FAMILY
Baby-Parent Rhyme Time
10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 1
Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants.
Family Storytime
6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 25
This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.
Toddler Storytime
10 a.m. Wednesday, October 26
10 a.m. Thursday, October 27
Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, fingerplays and short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation and encouragement. Toddler storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Kids Read Down Fines

do you have library fines? Take care of them by reading! Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading during the allotted time in the designated area of the library. For ages 18 and younger.

Preschool Storytime

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes.
Harry Potter Party

Enter the magical world of Harry Potter and get ready for a wizardly Halloween with games and crafts.
