Former Lehigh postmaster to provide cachet envelopes
Former Lehigh Acres Postmaster and now Naples Florida Postmaster Richard Barber was working the crowds at Rookery Bay National Estuaries Research Reserve on Saturday, September 24. Barber, who was postmaster at the Lehigh Acres Post Office about 10 years ago, made sure that everyone in attendance was aware of the opportunity to purchase Save Vanishing Species semi-postal stamps.
For every sheet of stamps sold at the event Barber included a cachet envelope designed for the event with a unique “Florida Funshine” Postmark America postmark, said Debra Mitchell, who is with Customer Relations of the U.S. Postal Service.
Those who attended were excited to learn about the stamps, she said . Rookery Bay hosted the event to commemorate National Estuaries Day and appreciated the fact that proceeds from the stamp sales benefit the Marine Turtle Conservation Fund.
In observation of National Stamp Collecting Month Barber will host a lobby event at the Naples Main Post office located at 1200 Goodlette Road N. on Monday, October 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. He will offer the Rookery Bay cachet envelopes and Florida Funshine postmark as well as an opportunity to win framed Save Vanishing Species stamp art, Mitchell said.
