Soccer shoot planned by Elks on Oct. 23 in Lehigh
The Fort Myers Elks Lodge 1288 will hold a soccer shoot on Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Lehigh Middle School soccer field on Arthur Ave. from 1 to 5 p.m.
Participants include those under 8, under 10, under, 12 and 14 years of age and under. Both boys and girls are eligible to compete.
The winner will advance to the district level and a chance to win a week at the Florida Elks Youth Camp. Everyone from Lehigh Acres and Fort Myers are welcome to try out. For more information, call Quinn Jerriey at 239-462-2337.
Stamp Collection show is Oct. 15 at Shell Factory
A National Stamp Collection Month family event is planned for Saturday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Shell Factory in North Fort Myers.
Activities will include mail sack races, Caloosa clown skits, face painting, agility dog demonstrations, dock dog demonstrations, final judging of a student “letters to Owney” writing contest, pet photo contest, creating a pet placement, learning how to start a stamp collection, online coloring activity and door prizes.

Ghost writer to address Gulf Coast group
Professional Ghost Writer Suzanne Barr will address the Gulf Coast Writers on Saturday, October 15, at 10 a.m. at Freedom Hall, Zion Lutheran Church, 7401 Winkler Road, Fort Myers.
For more than a decade Barr has been a ghostwriter for a New York Times Best Selling author. She’s written more than 20 novels, all bestsellers. Under her own name, she’s written Fatal Kiss, the true story of Sylvia White, a North Carolina woman who murdered her step son.

Covered dish lunch set at Community Pool on Oct. 12
The Lehigh Acres Community Pool will welcome autumn with a covered dish luncheon. This event is open to all who bring a dish to share along with daily admission to the pool on Oct. 12. The prices for admission are $2 for seniors, $2.50 for adults, or an annual pass. It’s a chance to socialize with friends, enjoy the outdoors and some great home cooking, says Glenn Pollack, a senior program specialist at the pool.

Medicine Shoppe Flu Clinic scheduled
A flu shot clinic is scheduled at the Medicine Shoppe from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12. The Medicine Shoppe is at 57 Homestead Rd. N. in the Lehigh Towne Center. Those with Medicare, which will pay for the shot, must bring their cards with them. For others, the flu shot vaccine is $30. Also available will be pneumonia vaccine shots for $65.
No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome.
Next Community Planning workshop is Oct. 22
The next Lehigh Acres Community Plan Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, October 22 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the East County Regional Library, 881 Gunnery Road North, Lehigh Acres.
The topic of discussion for this workshop will be “infrastructure.”
General Women’s Club to hold annual luncheon
The General Women’s Club of Lehigh Acres will hold its annual luncheon card party and game day on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church at 705 Leeland Heights Blvd in Lehigh. Elks to feature Halloween dance, party on Oct. 29
The Fort Myers Lehigh Acres Elks Lodge No. 1288 will have a Halloween dance and party on Oct. 29 at the Fort Myers Lodge at 1288 for Elks members and their guests. Many Lehigh Elks now attend the one in Lehigh since the Lodge in Lehigh was closed.
The bar opens at 4 p.m. and a “Pulled Pork Dinner” will be served at 6 p.m.
Music will be by Sea Breeze and costumes are optional.
