Immokalee smashes Cape, 66-27

By Staff | Oct 15, 2011

IMMOKALEE – This figured to be a really high-scoring, non-district Class 5A game. For Immokalee, it was.

Cape Coral’s numbers hardly were pedestrian, but the Seahawks couldn’t keep up with the Indians who ran away to a 66-27 victory Friday night.

The Seahawks (3-3) play at Mariner next Friday night.

Cape Coral managed just 43 yards rushing, but junior quarterback Kurt Benkert completed 13-of-28 passes for 212 yards and three TDs.

Immokalee scored the first four times it had the ball as the Indians blew to a 28-15 first-quarter lead.

Benkert threw scoring passes of 24 and 71 yards to T.J. Jiles.

The Seahawks scored on a two-yard run by Dustin Thibodeau and trailed 38-21 at the half.

Immokalee picked off a Benkert pass at the Cape 12 on the first play of the second half and scored two plays later.

The Seahawks countered on a fourth-and-22 from the Indians’ 32 when Benkert hit Kyle Fischl in the left corner of the end zone.
