Blades’ Shugg wins ECHL weekly award
Forward Justin Shugg of the Florida Everblades was notified Tuesday that he is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for last week’s play.
The 19-year-old scored three goals, added three assists and was a plus-1 for the Blades during their three-game road trip last weekend. Shugg scored his first professional goal in an 8-5 loss at Trenton Saturday, and finished the game with three points (2g, 1a). On Sunday, he posted a second consecutive three-point effort (1g-2a) in a 7-2 win at Reading.
Shugg is tied for first among ECHL rookies, and tied for third overall in the league, with eight points (3g-5a) in five games.
Shugg was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
The Everblades’ next game is 7:35 p.m. Friday on the road against the Greenville Road Warriors.
Their home game is Nov. 9 against the Wheeling Nailers.
