Controlled burns in Lehigh planned this week
Caloosahatchee Forestry Center wildland firefighters will conduct prescribed burns in Lehigh Acres this week, weather permitting.
A burn is planned in the vicinity of Tunney Street and West Borro Loop for Tuesday, Nov. 8. Total acreage for the burn will depend on weather conditions, said Victor A. Hill, wildfire mitigation specialist with the CFC, Florida Forest Service.
Prescribed burns reduce the density of vegetation and the risks associated with catastrophic wildfire, Hill said. Regular prescribed burns help ensure safety, promote healthy forests and enhance wildlife habitat.
The announcement is being made so that if people see smoke from those areas, they will know it is a controlled burn program..
