Teenager dies after shooting on Orange River Blvd.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred late Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of Ottumwa Ave. and Orange River Blvd. in Fort Myers. The area is north of Lehigh Acres.

According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies said the driver of a silver, PT Cruiser had been shot and efforts were underway on the scene by citizens and emergency medical personnel to save his life.

They identified the victim as Jose Pineior, 17, who was transported to the Trauma Center at Lee memorial Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

Early accounts of the incident indicate a second vehicle was seen approaching the victim’s vehicle in the general vicinity when shots rang out, according to the report.

The victim drove west on Orange River Blvd. before going off the road and striking the concrete culvert, which disabled the car. Two adult passengers in the vehicle were not injured.

A description of a green colored car, possibly a Dodge Stratus or Intrepid or similar vehicle, was seen leaving the area at the time of the incident, according to the report.
