Hope Hospice to hold volunteer class on Nov. 16
Hope Hospice will conduct a volunteer training class at its office at 1201 Wings Way in Lehigh Acres, on Wednesday November 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Refreshments provided. Preregistration is required.
Hope Volunteers are needed for office work, patient visits, light housekeeping, transportation, community events and other rewarding activities.

Kreegel aide to be in Lehigh in November and again in December
Rep. Paige V. Kreegel (D-72) has announced that a member of his staff will be in Lehigh Acres on Wednesday, Nov. 16 and on Tuesday, Dec. 13 to discuss any issues related to the citizens in the area. Women’s Club to hold fashion show on Nov. 18
The General Women’s Club of Lehigh Acres will meet on Nov. 18 at the Faith Lutheran Church on Leeland Heights Blvd. Linda Saul, a spokeswoman said the program will be a preview of the 2012 new fashions.
All Saints Byzantine Church to have bake sale Nov. 19
All Saints Byzantine Catholic church at 10291 Bayshore Rd. in North Fort Myers will have a bake sale on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Several ethnic baked goods will be available such as nut roll, poppy seed rolls, cookies and several breads. Also available will be six different varieties of Pirohi. To get to the church take Exit 143 east of I-75 and travel a quarter of a mile. It is just west of the civic center. Mariann Gaydos is the chairman.
Church bazaar will on Nov. 19
St. Anselms Episcopal Church at 6th St and Joel Blvd. in Lehigh Acres will have its annual bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be a flea market and all proceeds from the bazaar go for outreach programs of the church. For more information, call Salma at 368-2862.
Gulf Coast Writers group meets Nov. 19
Award-winning professor, writer, poet and storyteller Sid Simon will address the Gulf Coast Writers Association on Saturday, November 19 at 10 a.m.. in Room 108 at Zion Lutheran Church, 7401 Winkler Rd., Fort Myers. Simon will discuss how narrative and storytelling can be used to enliven writing.
Sid Simon’s 13th book is a book of poems about people growing old in a mythical Condo in Florida. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and has conducted highly acclaimed workshops all over the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe. A member of The Sanibel Island Writers’ Group, he has read regularly at Writers’ Reads, and at the Open Mics on the Island. He is also a theater critic for the Sanibel Islander, an active member of Art Poems since its beginnings, and for the past 10 years, the chairperson and master of ceremonies of First Fridays stories for grownups at the Sanibel Library.
Elks to hold bake sale, auction on Nov. 22
The Fort Myers/Lehigh Acres Elks Lodge 1288 will hold a Holiday Bake Sale Auction on the evening of Nov. 22. The menu offers either liver and onions or tuna casserole. Relay for Life yard sale is Dec. 1-3
A benefit yard sale for Lehigh Acres Relay for Life will be held Dec. 1-3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sheldon Ave. off Joel Blvd. in Lehigh Acres.
All monies raised go to the American Cancer Society. There is something for
everyone including books, clothing, shoes, car seat, book cases, household items and much more, said Helen Butler, a spokesman with the group.
Holiday dinner, dance is Dec. 2 at Colonial Country Club
The General Women’s Club of Lehigh Acres will host a Holiday dinner and Dance on Dec. 2 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Colonial Country Club, Independence Way, Fort Myers. The menu choices are Chicken Chevere or Potato Encrusted Grouper. Music will be by Jerry Ward. Credit card bar available. Donation is $35 per person and helps sponsor the club’s Scholarship Fund. Christmas party planned Dec. 3 by Knights Auxiliary
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, St. Raphael’s council #6265 will host its annual Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 3. It will be at St. Raphael’s Church Hall on Lee Blvd. from 6 to 10 p.m. the cost is $20 per person. It is a BYOB affair. The public is welcome to attend. Date of adoption of land code development changes
The adoption of public hearings for the Lehigh Acres Land Development Code (LDC) have been moved to Dec. 13 at 5:05 p.m. in the Board of County Commissioner Chambers and Jan. 10 at 9:30 a.m. in the Board of County Commissioners in Fort Myers, according to an announcement from Kathie Ebaugh, principal planner, Division of Planning, Lee County Department of Community Development.
Community Plan Workshop set for Jan. 14
The next Lehigh Acres Community Plan Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, January 14, 2012 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the East County Regional Library, 881 Gunnery Road North, Lehigh Acres, according to Janet Miller, administrative assistant with DCD Administration.
