Colorful quilts are given away at Christmas to children
Brightly colored fabric with snowmen, Christmas trees, and Santas were turned into pillow cases when 17 members of the Lehigh Acres chapter of Quilts For Kids formed an assembly line.
The pillow cases will be distributed to hospitalized children during the holidays. They will go to Healthpark, ACT, and Lehigh Hope Hospice children’s division, said Shirley Condon, a spokeswoman with the group. The group donates hundreds of quilts to children in Lee County each year. The quilts and pillow cases brighten hospital rooms and put smiles on children’s faces, Condon said.
The Lehigh Chapter of Quilts For Kids was established in 2004 as an off spring of the international group founded in Yardley Pa., by Linda Arye in 2000. More information about Quilts For Kids can be found at www.quiltsforkids.org
Quilters of all ages and skill levels meet twice a month. Kits are provided for beginner quilters. New helpers are welcome to join in the fun, Condon said. Fabric donations are always appreciated. For more information about the Lehigh group call 239-728-2607.
