Caloosahatchee Forestry Center will conduct a prescribed fire today (Thursday, Nov. 17) in Lehigh Acres. The general area of the burn is Monroe Avenue and 5th Street East.

Total acreage for the burn will depend on weather conditions, said Victor A. Hill, wildfire mitigation specialist with the Caloosahatchee Forestry Center, Florida Forest Service.

Prescribed burns reduce the density of vegetation and the risks associated with catastrophic wildfire.

Regular prescribed burns help ensure safety, promote healthy forests and enhance wildlife habitat, Hill said.
