Chamber would get new name in bylaws
If new proposed bylaws are approved by the membership at the next meeting of the Chamber, the new name of the organization will become The Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce.
Inke Baker, the executive assistant at the Chamber said all members were emailed the proposed bylaws that have been worked on during the last few months with updating and additions to the existing bylaws.
“The general membership will vote on these bylaws on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 during our general membership luncheon at 11 a.m. at the Microtel Inn & Suites,” she said.
This is a change as luncheons have been held at the Majestic Golf Club. It was announced at last month’s meeting that luncheon sites would be at different locations in the future.
Members who have questions may call Baker at 369-3322.
The bylaws are proposed and since they have not been officially adopted, an examination won’t be compiled at this time.
The biggest change is the name change. It contains he same number of directors,” Baker said.
“New is also the option to have the officers stay in office for up to 24 months,” Baker said.
There are nine pages consisting of the proposed bylaws and they were emailed in pdf form to all members last Thursday.
The bylaws touch on such topics as dues, voting, change of representatives, membership termination, resignation, and termination or delinquency.
Article III mentions the annual meeting in January and continues to offer information about general membership meetings as they are now.
It explains the powers and qualification of the Chamber’s governing and policymaking functions, the composition of the board of directors and nominations and elections.
Article V covers officers, their term of office and how they are nominated and elected. It also gives information about the duties of officers.
Standard committees such as membership, special events, finance, bylaws and public relations, in addition to ad-hoc committees are addressed.
Baker said each member should take some time to read the proposed bylaws because if they are voted for in the affirmative, they will become active immediately upon their adoption by the membership.
