Lehigh man charged after hitting school bus

By Staff | Dec 2, 2011

A 76-year-old Lehigh Acres man faces careless driving charges after a Friday afternoon brush with a Lee County school bus.

Robert Marino stopped too closely behind a bus full of school children, the Florida Highway Patrol reported, and when the driver of the bus turned right from Country Club Parkway onto Joel Boulevard, the tail of the bus crushed the front of Marino’s Toyota Avalon.

The crash caused about $3,500 in damage, mostly to Marino’s car, but no one was injured.

Most of the 19 children on the bus, ages 11 to 14, were picked up by their parents. Some rode a different school bus that came to collect them.
