Schools named to ‘Positive Behavior Support’ model list

Officials of Lee County public schools have announce that several of the county’s schools have been named Bronze, Silver and Gold level schools as part of the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) program. The schools honored are:

Bronze: Allen Park, Alva, Gateway, Ray V. Pottorf, Rayma C. Page elementary schools; and Diplomat Middle.

Silver: G. Weaver Hipps Elementary.

Gold: River Hall Elementary.

“The PBS approach has shown to help students identify their inappropriate behavior and decisions and what they need to do to change for the better,” said Dr. Joseph Burke, Lee County Superintendent of Schools. “We continue to look for new and different ways of reaching all of our students to they can learn to make the right decisions this will benefit them in school as well as later in life.”

A PBS Model School is one that has met specific criteria and has reported innovative, creative, and functional ways of supporting the program in their respective school. Specific characteristics include consistent methods of: utilizing data to better serve students and staff; teaching PBS to new students throughout the school year; creative and engaging reward systems; extending PBS throughout the campus and partnering with the community and parents; and including PBS into daily activities across all available teaching opportunities.
