Overloaded extension cord blamed for Lehigh house fire
An overloaded electrical extension cord has been blamed for causing a house fire in which a single family was living in on Friday, Dec. 23, according to Fire Marshal Kenneth Bennett of the Lehigh Acres Fire Dept.
Bennett said that the department sent firefighters at 11:51 p.m. on Friday night to a house at 2702, 24th St. SW.
He said the home was occupied at the time by a family of four. Smoke detectors alerted the family of the fire and they were able to get out of the house without being injured.
Bennett said firefighters quickly accessed and contained the fire to two rooms of the home.
The fire caused about $75,000 in damages and possessions.
The American Red Cross, Lee County Chapter, has provided temporary assistance to the family.
