Two wildfires in Lehigh called suspicious
Two suspicious wildfires in Lehigh Acres were reported Monday.
Victor A. Hill, wildfire mitigation specialist with the Caloosahatchee Forestry Center, Florida Forest Service, said the first fire occurred on Monroe Avenue, just north of 6th St. E. The wildfire was a half acre in size and no homes were threatened, he said.
The second wildfire occurred near Scott Avenue and 8th St. E., northwest of the first wildfire. No homes were threatened and the fire was one acre in size, he said.
Hill also said the cause of both fires is incendiary, meaning that the wildfires may have been accidentally or intentionally set.
Caloosahatchee Forestry Center reminds residents to contact law enforcement and report suspicious activity in neighborhoods. Residents can also call the Arson Alert Hotline at 800-342-5869. Information that leads to an arrest may result in a reward.
