Riverdale students win achievement awards

By Staff | Jan 17, 2012

Five Riverdale High School students have earned the “Future Award,” joining 20 Florida members of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) which have achieved the honor this school year.

The Riverdale High students honored were: Alexandria Amott, Jerrett Nelson, Alex Karicher, Tanner Mulling and Preeya Raghubar. They were “pinned” at a recent meeting and are now working toward their next level of achievement, said Riverdale High School Principal Gerald Demming.

The Business Achievement awards are an opportunity for active members of FBLA to document their involvement and receive local, state and national recognition.

Riverdale High’s FBLA program has 118 members, who are involved in community service projects, fundraising and preparing for competitions in almost 60 events, Demming said.

The first round of competition begins February 9 at the FBLA District Leadership Conference in LaBelle. This competition will see schools from five counties compete against each other.

Last year, 63 Riverdale students won District trophies, with 11 members placing at the state competition and one team winning second place in the nation for Digital Design, Demming said.
