UPDATE NO. 1 – The female victim has been identied as Toni Morgan 47.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in reference to gunfire at 7588 Marx Drive in the Suncoast Estates Community in North Fort Myers on Friday, Jan. 20 shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Responding deputies found a female victim with life threatening injuries. A white male suspect was seen fleeing the scene. The scene was secured and a perimeter was established, according to a sheriff’s report.

A Hostage Negotiation Team, Special Operation Squad (SWAT) and Aviation responded to assist with the crime scene. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

The suspect in the shooting has been located deceased in the vicinity and the female victim has died from her injuries, said Sgt. David Velez, a public information officer with the Sheriff’s Office.

The identity of both individuals will be released upon positive identification and notification of next of kin, he said.

Velez said the incident appears to be an isolated one and there is no reason to suspect the neighborhood is in any danger.
