By Staff | Feb 5, 2012

A Lehigh Acres motorcyclist died following a crash Saturday at 2:35 p.m. on Lee Blvd. in Lehigh. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a motorcycle collided with an SUV while traveling east near the Douglas Avenue intersection.

The motorcyclist was identified as 23-year-old Joshua Daniel Baker of Rockford Boulevard, Lehigh.

Several calls were made concerning the crash and the highway was shut down to traffic.

Investigators said the crash resulted in the motorcyclist being ejected and suffering critical injury. He was transported to Lehigh Regional Medical Center where he died of his injuries. A traffic homicide detective said a black, 2001 Lexus SUV driven by 53-year-old Rodham Chesnut of Fort Myers was driving in the center lane and properly moved over to the right lane.

The motorcycle, a 2009, black, Yamaha, was traveling at a higher rate of speed, also in the middle lane, the investigators said. The motorcyclist changed lanes and struck the rear of the SUV. No charges have been filed in the case.
