Lehigh teenager charged with murder in shooting
A Lehigh Acres teenager faces charges of homicide murder following a shooting in Lehigh Acres on Feb. 29 that caused the lockdown of three area schools.
Charged with homicide murder is Antonio Oneal Wilson, 17, of 207 E. Leeland Heights Blvd.
Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported to the scene at 3:23 p.m. after a call that shots had been fired at the E. Leeland Heights Blvd. address.
Sgt. David Velez, a public information officer with the Sheriff’s Office, said that the victim, Abraham Caballero, 18, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died as a result of the shooting incident.
Wilson, the suspect, was holed up at the house on Leeland Heights Blvd. After the shooting and the Hostage Negotiation Team was able to get the suspect to surrender, according to a sheriff’s report.
Lt. Larry King, a public information officer, told The Citizen that the two had a verbal argument prior to the suspect who encouraged the victim to come over to his house. King said he met him at the door with the gun.
Velez said three schools were put in lockdown so students wouldn’t be on the streets walking while the investigation was under way. The three schools were Lehigh Elementary, Lehigh Middle School and Veterans Park Academy.
Parents were notified that many of the students could be picked up at the Hipps Elementary School on Homestead Rd., where they were bused.
Velez said traffic was rerouted during the investigation. The site is close to the Richmond Ave. intersection.
