Lehigh Acres Relay for Life rescheduled
The Lehigh Acres Relay for Life was canceled this past weekend due to the possibility of inclement weather. It has been rescheduled for April 28-29 at the Veteran Park Academy for the Arts School on Homestead Road. Several hundred people are expected to turn out. Money raised by those participating goes toward finding a cure for cancer, said Julie Camp, coordinator of Relay for Life. For more information, call Camp at 369-1629. It is open to the public and participants. There are games and prizes and food.
Hospital scholarships offered by auxiliary
The Lehigh Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary is offering Scholarships. The applications will be available at the front information desk at the hospital on Lee Boulevard. Applications should be completely filled out and clip all attachments. Return them to the information desk. The deadline to apply is May 16. Applicants will be notified by May 31, said Liz Eilf, president of the Lehigh Regional Medical Hospital Auxiliary.
Register to vote at chamber on Saturdays
“FEVRR” will conduct voter registration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays in front of the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce building from May 5 through September. The chamber is located in the Lehigh Town Center on Alabama and Homestead roads. Eligible voters must be U.S. citizens and 17 years or older.
JROTC ribbon cutting for course, complex
A groundbreaking for the East Lee County High Leadership Academy Challenge Course and Training Complex will be held May 9 at 9 a.m. at 715 Thomas Sherwin Ave. The ceremony will include the commencement of construction at the complex. East Lee County High School was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Magnet Schools Assistance Program. The grant is designed to increase student achievement through the expansion of the JROTC Leadership Academy, to include the course and complex.
Pole walking exercise
Lee County Parks & Recreation is now offering pole walking at Veterans Park Recreation Center, at 55 Homestead Road S. Pole walking improves posture, burns calories, builds bone density and increases cardio stamina.
Each session offers four classes for $40, which covers instruction and use of poles. The next session is May 1-22 from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
All fitness levels are welcome to sign up. Class will meet outside the recreation building’s main front doors. Wear comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes and bring a water bottle. Walking poles are provided.
The class is taught by local resident Lindy Smith, a trained walking instructor for 10 years.

Fountaincrest to host fashion show
A fashion show will be held May 9 at 2 p.m. at Fountain Crest Retirement Community. The show will feature Anthony’s Ladies Apparel from Fort Myers, accompanied by Elijah on the piano. There will be wine and cheese, as well as door prizes. Seating is limited, so RSVP as soon as possible by calling 303-1230.
