Riverdale students do well at state conference

Eleven Riverdale High School students placed at the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference and Competition.

Students Courtney Strait and Jay Teran received FBLA scholarships.

Courtney, a senior, took first place in the state in electronic career portfolio.

Nirbhav Chopra, a sophomore, captured second place in introduction to technology concepts.

A team of juniors – Sarah McClellan, Jerrett Nelson and Danny Cerniglia – won second place in entrepreneurship.

These students will represent Florida in the National Leadership Conference this summer.

Also placing at the state event were: Alex Karicher, fourth place in job interview; and the parliamentary procedure team, made up of Preeya Raghubar, Alexandria Amott, Calyn Lee, Tanner Mulling and Brandi Gudinas, which took fifth place.

Riverdale High’s adviser, Ileane Flores, was one of four teachers inducted into the FBLA Adviser Hall of Fame.

Flores was honored for her work in helping develop business leaders at Riverdale High. She has worked with some 1,000 students in the Riverdale High chapter in 10 years.

The FBLA chapter is now trying to raise another $10,000 to attend the national conference.

Anyone interested in helping is urged to contact Ileane Flores, FBLA adviser, or co-adviser Dr. Frank Palaia at 694-4141.
