Lee County Domestic Animal Services’ kennels will receive a long-over-due renovation beginning June 4.

The renovation will create a healthier environment for the animals, but will cause a temporary shortage of space in which to house pets. The problem is also compounded by the onset of kitten season.

To help alleviate the problem during construction, LCDAS will waive the adoption fee for all pets six months or older from June 1-30.

The adoption fee will be drastically reduced to only $30 for all puppies and kittens. Kittens are also two for the price of one.

“Our regular adoption fees range from $25 for senior pets up to $95 for puppies, so the incentives and savings make it a great time to add a new pet to the family,” Glenn Johnson, LCDAS operations manager, said. “With summer vacations around the corner, families will have some extra time to transition their pet to its new home.”

Even though adoption fees will be free or reduced, all pets adopted still will receive sterilization, age appropriate vaccinations, county license, microchip ID, de-worming, flea treatment, a heartworm test for dogs, feline aids and leukemia test for cats, 10-day health guarantee and a bag of Hill’s Science Diet dog or cat food.

The adoption package is valued at more than $500.

Adoption viewing hours are Monday-Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You can even submit your adoption application online before you come to the shelter.
