Beware of payment scam for electric service
FPL has been made aware of a payment scam potentially impacting customers in their service area.
Officials said it is similar to a nationwide bill payment scam that provides customers with false bank information to pay their utility bill in exchange for their personal information. Impacted FPL customers will receive letters from FPL stating their payment was invalid.
FPL officials said they are requesting assistance to urge customers to ignore any suspicious offers to pay their utility bill using unauthorized bank information or requests to provide personal information such as bank account numbers, user names and passwords, credit card numbers, or their Social Security number.
FPL serves part of Lehigh Acres while LCEC serves most of the customers in the community.
