As one people, then and now
To the editor:
Last century, at a time of economic anxiety and great uncertainty, these great words, and the ideas behind them, helped guide our nation to a new era of security and prosperity:
“In our personal ambitions we are individualists. But in our seeking for economic and political progress as a nation, we all go up or else all go down as one people.”
That was what Franklin Roosevelt said at his second inaugural in 1937-and that’s what the Democrats, in their national convention, are calling for now. We can bring on a new era of security and prosperity – if we all pull together.
