Students, faculty face off in basketball games

On Jan. 17, a combination of the boys and girls basketball teams at Lehigh Acres Middle School played two games against a school faculty team.

The student team was led by Jarvis Martin, London Williams and Coursean Thomas. Faculty members were led by Jevon Matthews, Danny McCulley and Forest Walker.

The students played hard and held their own, but in the end the faculty won 47-37 and 36-33.

The game was organized as part of the school’s PBS Program, which rewards students for positive behavior.

PHOTO SPECIAL TO THE CITIZEN Laura Mulvey, Sandi Nichols, Terroncia Simons, Yamilee Francois and Johnnie Mae Hawkins took on the roles of the cheerleaders.

More than 900 students attended the games and cheered on their favorites.

Several faculty dressed as cheerleaders and performed a “Gangnam Style” dance and the “Wobble” at half-time.

Ekenta on dean’s list

Onyebuchi Ekenta, a member of the class of 2015 at Washington and Lee University, has earned dean’s list status for the fall 2012 term.

Dean’s list status at Washington and Lee represents a term grade-average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

Ekenta is a resident of Lehigh Acres.
